The Black Response is a Cambridge-based community organization dedicated to re-distributing city funds to black and brown communities as well as uplifting black people in Cambridge. Transition House leadership has been collaborating with The Black Response in support of creating new systems, like an alternative 9-1-1 CPD system, called Cambridge HEART (Holistic Emergency Alternative Response Team) to offer alternatives to police response.

In June of 2020, Transition House made a public statement committing to “critical examination of our work from an anti-racist lens and staying in consistent and persistent dialogue with people of color in our agency and in our community”. We stand by our words and recognize that moving beyond superficial reform requires dedicated and focused time and attention. In alignment with that goal, we are thrilled to announce we have hired Shameka Gregory for the position of Director of Equity and Justice.

We are so excited to welcome our newest interns to our team, Tanya and Maddie! Tanya is a student at Northeastern University and our most recent coop student in our Emergency Shelter. Maddie has just joined our Community Partnership team from Boston College as an MSW intern.
